Someone out there on the internet got the idea that celebrities sort of look like each other, and you can put them adjacent to each other so that it looks like they’re actually evolving.This is fuckin’ great

“The giant tortoise Lonesome George, whose failed efforts to produce offspring made him a symbol of disappearing species, was found dead on Sunday, officials at the Galapagos National Park announced.
Lonesome George was believed to be the last living member of the Pinta island subspecies and had become an ambassador of sorts for the islands off Ecuador’s coast whose unique flora and fauna helped inspire Charles Darwin’s ideas on evolution.”

Lonesome George, the last Pinta giant tortoise of his kind died today at Galapagos National Park in Ecuador, meaning the subspecies (Chelonoidis nigra abingdoni) is now extinct. His exact age was unknown, but he was believed to be about 100 years old. During his lifetime he was considered to be the rarest creature on Earth, and became a major icon for international conservation.
