True story.
You look up. A slut comes tumbling out of the sky! Oh my goodness. Before you have time to ask where she came from, yet another slut comes tumbling out of the sky. This one actually hits you on her way to the ground. You stagger. There are sluts everywhere! How do you know they’re sluts? Oh, you know. You just know. There are more sluts falling from the sky. It is a literal deluge of sluts! You’re running, dodging bodies when a particularly large slut lands right on top of you, pinning you to the ground.
A respectable citizen pokes their head out of a building as the horrifying downpour of sexual liberation (oh no) and clothes that show relatively more skin than yours (OH NO) continues, shouting, “Is there anyone out here who isn’t a slut?”
Alas, buried under the ever mounting pile of people that you’ve voluntarily placed a dichotomy separating you from them that totally isn’t false, your croaks for help can’t reach their ears.
You will die in this place

[[Skank Flank: The New Tramp Stamp]]
A few days ago, @forestine sent me {this article}. It’s another “tattoos are soo trendy” article from a major news source. Like we haven’t heard a thousand people tell us this before.
But here’s the part that really bothered her, and me:
… a popular placement for women’s tattoos has moved from the lower back to the rib area.
“We call it the ‘skank flank,’” [the tattoo artist we interviewed] said. “Every week or two, I see another girl with another rib piece, and you have to tell them that.”
Excuse me?
Wanting to get a discrete tattoo that you can easily cover up makes you a skank?
Since when are ribs considered a sexual body part?
Really, if nothing else this makes the fact that “tramp stamps” are body shaming that much more clear. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term body shaming, it’s a cultural phenomenon that essentially makes everything you do with your body wrong. You’re fat? Lazy and disgusting. You’re skinny? Eat a cheeseburger you look anorexic. You’re fit? You look like a man. And so on. It’s designed to make women (and increasingly men) feel bad about their body, no matter what they do or how they look.
Here is how the same douchebags would like us to view tattoos:
Lower back tattoos: you’re a tramp
Rib tattoos: you’re a skank
Wrist tattoos: you’re a dumb skank
Arm tattoos: you’re a whore
Leg tattoos: you’re a whore
Feet tattoos: you’re a whore
Shoulder tattoos: you’re a whore
Tattoos anywhere: you’re a whore
No tattoos: you’re still a whore.
There is no bit exaggeration in this. Anyone who would call the girl above a skank for getting a Disney tattoo on her ribs is a fucking idiot.
All of this language is used to control women. To make us judge each other’s bodies, feel self-conscious about our own, or dictate what we can or can’t do (with tattoos, weight gain/loss, or anything else.)
Really, the best way to nip this in the bud is by calling out anyone who uses the language of “tramp stamps.” The logic is the same in both, and by having conversations with people on why this sort of language hurts women, we can start reclaiming our ability to tattoo whatever parts of our body we want.
This astounding thing about this is, women probably started getting smaller tattoos on their ribs in an attempt to be able to be tattooed without being labeled a sexual slur. So what does our culture do? It makes sure those slurs follow the tattoo all the way up to the ribcage!
This serves as an important piece of evidence to me: no matter what women do to act within the unrealistic expectations for women in our culture, the culture will shift itself just enough to further enable oppression.

A few of these haven’t started posting anything yet. But it’s obvious what direction they’re headed in. If we’re lucky we can get them taken down before they harass anyone else.
Reblogging as requested.
What in the fuck!!! Report this bullshit
SIGNAL BOOST. And TRIGGER WARNING for the facebook pages.
These pages are hate-filled and DISGUSTING. The entire premise is misogynistic slut shaming (with plenty of racism, homophobia, and cisism to go around). But not general, faceless slut shaming. Oh no. They post the names and pictures of actual women, and write (extremely poorly written) paragraphs about how much of a “hoe” each one is and why.
This is utterly infuriating. PLEASE follow the links and report those pages to Facebook.
HOW TO REPORT THIS ABUSE TO FACEBOOK:
- Click one of the “Hoes” links.
- Next to the “Message” button at the top of the profile is a small icon of a Gear. Click the gear. A drop down menu will appear.
- Click “Report Page”. A window will pop up.
- Select “Hate speech”. A drop down window will appear beneath it, saying “Choose a type”.
- Select “Targets based on gender or orientation”.
- Click “Continue”. That window will disappear and another, smaller window will replace it.
- In this window you are given the option to send a message to the page. Selecting it will cause a text box to appear beneath it. You do not have to send a message. If you do not want to send them a message, do NOT select “Message [name of profile] to remove the page”.
- Select the “Report to Facebook” box at the lower left corner of the window.
- Click “Continue”. A few seconds will pass.
- The window is replaced with a new window saying “Thanks For Your Report”. Here you are given the option to receive an email after Facebook has reviewed the report. It’s your choice whether you select this or not.
- Click “Okay”.
- Repeat these steps for each “Hoes” page.
[I know it seems like a lot, but that’s just because I gave very detailed instructions. It honestly takes like 10 to 15 seconds per page.]
Please do this. These women are being publicly humiliated and harassed and they need our help. PLEASE HELP.

“For any girl growing up who pays attention to the media, it’s a terrifying time to understand what it means to be a girl in society.”
A great article about slut shaming and media’s portrayal and judgement of women

TRIGGER WARNING
This is a Scottish anti-rape PSA that is a direct response to blaming a rape victim for dressing like a slut. What do you think? Is it effective?
ummmmm YES.
we need PSA’s like this in the U.S. asap. this video gets to the point of what rape culture is and is very serious about it.
WIN WIN WIN WIN
Wow, absolutely. This was amazing, and it was only thirty seconds.

Women subordinating women.
Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you the new generation.
This is a perfect example of how negatively our patriarchal society has affected its women. She barely looks old enough for high school, and this is what this girl has grown to believe: that this is how she -and all other women- must live in order to be a responsible, productive, and healthy member of society. I’m seriously so sick of women subordinating each other like this. All it does is degrade and oppress us as a gender from within. It’s especially bad here where I’m from. Feminism pretty much isn’t even a word here, and nobody wants to associate themselves with the “feminist” movement because of the stigma attached to it, like it’s some psycho lesbian cult or something.
stuff like this really makes me so sad.
Exactly. I hate shit like this. It’s completely ridiculous. How I sit has nothing to do with my sex life, and even if it did, who are you to judge me?
And does anyone else detect the victim blaming in this? “She had it coming. Did you see how she was sitting? She totally wanted it.” BULL FUCKING SHIT.

What do you call a woman who has a lot of sex? Her name.
GOD FUCKING YES, that.THIS. WHOLE. PICTURE. <3
Oops, sorry, this picture automatically reblogged itself.
can I express my love for the guy in the back forever?
This is intense
REBLOG FOREVER. it’s not what a woman fucking wears, you don’t blame that. you blame the sick bastard who chooses to forcibly take advantage of a woman.
Is this a slut walk? I love slut walks. I really want to participate in one. :)

Slut Shaming and Why it’s Wrong (x)
Doesn’t she seem a bit young to be talking about something like this…?
She’s obviously old enough to see it happening and to form her own opinions about it. Substantive discussion and critical thinking should never be discouraged, no matter what the age of the person. I watched her vids back when she was making them too, and she’s sharp as a tack.

everyone look.
This never even made sense to me. How would only having one partner be different from having sex with multiple partners if you were having sex the same number of times? Oh right, because of slut shaming.
The preceding comment is perfect.
“I don’t experience sexual attraction until forming a close emotional bond with someone” is not a slut shaming statement. “I don’t want to have casual sex” is not a slut shaming statement.
monogamy, asexuality, demisexuality, etc., are not the problem.
whatever people do or don’t choose to do in their private lives and whatever they feel or don’t feel towards other people, doesn’t fucking matter.
saying that “not only am I asexual, but everyone should be” or “I am demisexual and this is the orientation everyone should have because it’s always ethically best” are problematic, BUT I ALMOST NEVER SEE ANYONE SAY THIS.
What I see are the former statements, and them being interpreted in a way the latter should be. The point is personal choice and preference, identity and agency. People, for the most part, are not criticizing your sexual identity and/or behavior, but rather saying that theirs is different - to say that one has certain feelings (or a lack thereof) does not equal saying that those feelings are superior to the feelings of other people.
Like being gay is not a criticism of heterosexuality or heterosexual behavior, being asexual is not a criticism of sex or of sexual attraction. Like gay people who criticize heterosexuality (in attraction and behavior) there are asexual people who criticize sexual attraction and behavior, but the problem is not their orientation, nor their actions, but what they are saying about people who are more acknowledged and accepted and their anger is justified but misdirected.
